Velo29 National Team

Team Leader Matthew Kipling
Bishop Auckland

Matt joins Velo29 as the team leader for 2012. Formerly of Team Raleigh and Pinerello, Matt is without question one of the UK’s best riders. Matt is a winner on any terrain, and with the support of the entire Velo29 team behind him, 2012 will be a great year for Matt. Our most exciting signing yet!

Rob Carter
Marton

Rob joined the Velo29 Cycling Team in March 2010 and has rapidly become one of the team’s best riders and one of the most feared riders in the North East. Rob has scored wins and podiums at all levels in the North East and in his first year of premier calendar racing has finished comfortably with the best riders in the country. With Rob still being relatively new to the sport it is likely that he will go on to improve even further… Who knows how far he will go!

Velo29 fully expects Rob to finish top 15 if not higher in premier calendar races in 2012.

Rob Carter

Alex Bottomley
Whitby

Alex joined Velo29 from local team Fietsen Tempo in his quest to ride and be supported in the Premier Calendar Series for 2012.  Alex has masses of potential having already claimed the bronze medal in the 2011 National Junior Road Race Championships.  Thanks to his very light build Alex is well suited for the predominantly hilly races that occupy the Premier Calendar Seies.  Velo29 is proud to be able to provide the support that will put Alex on the right path for his espoir and senior career to follow.

Chris Mark
Coulby Newham

Chris is a man with years of experience and someone who can be counted on to perform at the highest level throughout the season.

He is a former NE region road race champion with top 20 results in premier calendar races under his belt; these are the sort of results that Chris will be aiming to improve upon with the support of Velo29 Cycling Team.

Richard Meadows
Eston

Richard rejoined Velo29 in 2011 after a season in France racing for the VS Scaer and a half a season with the Pendragon Racing Team. Richard has a wealth of experience and more wins in 2011 than you could count on 2 hands.

A prolific winner, Richard provides extra options for all races as well as the strength of a Best All Rounder Time Triallist. He is a guaranteed provider of results for 2012.

Michael Dales
Normanby

Mike joined us late in the build up to the 2011 season, but has proved to be one of our more successful signings. Mike has proven himself capable of being one of the strongest rouleurs in the country.

Mike is a motivated and enthusiastic team player who always adds to the team. Having progressed rapidly over the last couple of years thanks to a committed attitude, Mike is aiming to make an impact on Elite races in the UK.

Jack Rees
Stockton-on-Tees

Jack has developed quickly with Velo29, and only a year after finished at University has moved up to 1st category status. Jack is determined to give cycling his best shot with Velo29 over the next few years.

Jack had several wins last year and will undoubtedly carry this on at the higher level he has now reached. Jack will once again be taking part in the Premier Calendar Series this year.

Rob Orr
Leicester

Job joins us as a last minute addition to the 2012 National Team. Lots of experience with a variety of teams. Rob is hoping to turn this experience into some results for 2012.

Joe Norledge
Leicester

Joe joined us on the recommendation of one of the UK’s best riders David Clarke. Even though Joe has only been racing for a couple of years, he has already managed to finish the country’s hardest one day race whilst representing Velo29 – the UCI 2.1 Melton Cicle Classic.

Joe will now be competing in all the Premier Calendar races for Velo29, and we would not be shocked if he claimed a position in the top 20 in the near future.

Anthony Moye
Hitchen

Anthony adds his size and strength to the southern contingent of the Velo29 team for 2012.  Having finished several 2011 Premier Calendar races, Anthony will add the depth and firepower needed for a successful assault on the country’s biggest races.

Anthony is a committed ride who will undoubtely score some big results in 2012.

Thomas Timothy
Catterick

Tom (or TT) joined Velo29 in 2011 as a 3rd cat with only one season of road racing.  His talent was obvious and he progressed within the year to become a regular race winner, which culminated in his selection to ride in the Premier Calendar Richmond Grand Prix.

If Tom progresses as expected he will be a regular face in the biggest UK races in 2012.  Like Alex Bottomley, his light build makes him an ideal physiology for the hilly Premier Calendar races.

Rider Manager Dan Smith
Saltburn

Dan represented Great Britain as a Junior and Under-23 rider before signing for one of France’s top teams at the age of 22. He went on to spend 5 seasons abroad and established himself as one of France’s top riders with countless wins throughout his career. Now back in the UK Dan is targeting all the UK’s top races including the National Championships and the Premier Calendar Series. He will also represent Velo29 in France for the occasional return trip to racing abroad. As one of Velo29′s more senior riders Dan will coach and support the younger riders throughout the season and help them with tactical knowledge and training advice

Team photographer & Film Producer Phil Mark
Acklam

Phil has joined the team this year and will be present throughout the season at the team’s races both locally and nationally. Having Phil in the team is a real bonus and his assistance is very highly valued.

Phil will be producing video diaries and photo coverage of the team throughout 2012.
